How fitting to begin a new chapter and adventure by riding a hot air balloon, isn’t it?
This was the trip when it dawned on me of putting up a blog. It was New Years entering into 2015 in Bagan, Myanmar.
This was also the year I had finally conquered my greatest fear: heights.
For someone with an excruciating fear of heights, it’s quite strange that riding a hot air balloon was at the top of my bucket list, together with sky diving, haha!
Little did I know that there was something even greater than that of heights: the fear of failure.
For many years, growing up in school brought about nothing but sad memories, mainly because I was bullied – a lot. I know, doesn’t look it, huh? I shared it all in my book.
But ask anyone who knew me from back then, I was either always in a corner crying or putting up a strong front which made me quite an aggressive, angry person for many years.
But that’s a whole other story… for later.
Imagine, if you were always told you would never amount to anything and by a miracle, you fought the odds and created a life to be proud of, trust me, there will always be that chip on your shoulder making you question if your best is ever good enough.
By the grace of God, I had conquered many of life’s curve balls but this new world of “blogging,” who knew this would end up as the biggest test yet?
Then one day you will wake up and realize, there really is no right way to tell a story. All that matters is, it is sincere and in a way, has left you vulnerable.
A combination of scary yet meaningful: you risk imparting a personal piece of yourself to people you will never meet and you can never take it back — as very evident in the video!
So as I write this feeling awkward and even silly for saying so, I am also soaring up in the sky for finally conquering that first step of just trying.
Realize that ultimately, the fear isn’t what people will think.
It is conquering the fear of WHAT YOU THINK, that matters as you are your own greatest ally or enemy.
The choice is up to you.
If you notice, what I share in the video is absolutely different from my written post as I try to offer something, both, personal (tears included) and educational as well.
So tell me, have you got a fear you’re afraid to face? Any phobias you can’t seem to get past?
Would love to hear your thoughts!
My goal is to grow this site into a community where we can all support one another.
I have so much more to share on Bagan, Cappadocia and more!
