The explosion of K-Pop all over world opened the doors of fascination with South Korea. From food, soap operas to skincare, tourists have so much reasons to explore this beautiful country.
I actually have South Korea to thank for learning my now, holy grail of beauty regimens (don’t worry I have a whole other episode just for that).
While Seoul is the obvious choice when visiting South Korea especially for the first time, today’s episode is showing you the sights beyond the capital city.
Seoul is the largest city and capital of South Korea. As they say, it is the Seoul of the country.
The bustling metropolis attracts endless amounts of tourists. For starters, certain shopping malls like the area of Dongdaemun, are open until 5am!
Then of course there is the famous Insadong, a long street filled with local artisan stores, quaint art galleries, cafes and souvenir shops.
Pardon the comparison but I am trying to make it relatable: as Kyoto is to Japan, Gyeongju is to South Korea. The beginnings of both countries started in these cities before the capitals became Tokyo and Seoul, respectively.
With so much history from the 1000-Silla Dynasty alone, there’s much to discover and experience from this ancient city.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Hahoe Folk Village in South Korea gives you a glimpse into a the past with a Korean traditional village.
The second largest city and personally my favorite, Busan offers the best of all: shopping, beaches, food joints, culture and so much more.
Jeju Island is a 20 minute ferry ride away from Busan, South Korea. With 10-12 Unesco World Heritage Sites to explore, it is a nature lover’s paradise.
As a frequent getaway or retirement destination by South Koreans and celebrities, a trip to Jeju Island is a perfect way to take a break from the busy city life.
Have you seen my episode on Jeju Island? You’ll be amazed at what your body can do in the name of travel & adventure.
The industrial port of Incheon is the financial district/city of South Korea.
This is my last stop before heading back to Manila. Whether you’re there for business or not, rest assured the shopping choices like the Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo are worth a visit!
Make sure to watch today’s episode to see the highlights of South Korea! I can’t wait to go back! Do you have any recommendations for me? Would love to know where else to eat and visit next time!
Love & light,

When I read how the Philippine hit film, Kita Kita was shot in Hokkaido, I was happy that fans of the movie were taken to one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world!
Japan truly is one of the most captivating countries and intriguing cultures to behold and admire.
If you’ve been following my travels on Instagram, you would know by now how Japan is like a second home to me.
I’ve been going since I was 8 years old but more frequently the past 3 years. I’ve ventured to nearly all prefectures and cities, both urban and rural. It is my ultimate goal to finish touring all of Japan and I am gratefully happy to say, I am almost there.
Kita Kita in Tagalog can actually mean many things when translated. It all depends on how you pronounce it. In this case, the indie, romantic, comedy starring Empoy Marquez and Alessandra de Rossi, means,”I see you.”
Kita in Japanese on the other hand means North. Whether on purpose or coincidental, how serendipitous that Hokkaido is the northernmost region or prefecture in Japan.
When researching, out of Kita Kita’s ten film locations, I had been to eight of them through the different seasons in the past 3 years.
All of which I share in this week’s episode! So make sure to watch it and be inspired for your upcoming Japan itineraries!
Here are film locations from Kita Kita you can visit in Hokkaido:
Odori Park is like saying Central Park of New York. Hard to miss, it is right in the heart of Sapporo City.
All the big festivals like the Sapporo Snow Festival are held here as featured on the VLOG:
And there’s the Sapporo Autumn Fest, its food festival. It’s happening this September 9-30, 2017!
It is an absolute food haven as I shared on Instagram when I was there. So if you have plans to hit Sapporo this month, don’t miss it!
Don’t you worry, my Sapporo Food Guide is set for next week so make sure to subscribe!
One of the largest red-light districts in Japan is in Sapporo: Susukino.
The Sapporo Snow Festival also extends to this area to display the International Ice Sculptures.
Given the choice, I think I prefer Susukino in the winter with all that snow! Can you tell? Haha! What do you think? Took this photo during summer.
You can enjoy Japanese rice wine, sake, at one of many bars or izakayas.
I even shared an amazing video on Instagram from the #1 rated izakaya in Sapporo, Hachikyo.
The Sapporo Clock Tower is the symbol of the largest city in Hokkaido.
Even if it was built in the 1870s, it still chimes every hour.
Some of my most popular posts on Instagram were taken in Biei like this one from Shikisai No Oka.
Filled with sprawling, picturesque fields, it’s where I shot my first post for this VLOG.
It’s also where you can find one of the top 5 flower farms in Hokkaido. Have you seen that episode?
Just an hour local train ride away from Sapporo, you can visit the romantic port town of Otaru.
Famous for its canal, others refer to it as the Venice of Hokkaido.
Otaru is a popular destination in winter for the Snow Light Path Festival.
Due to its popularity, tourists are beyond plentiful at this time. So it’s always good to pack some realistic expectations with you when traveling.
Read about my reality vs expectations post during that festival here.
One of the reasons why I love Japan so much is because of its industriousness as a people. The Japanese’ great respect for their environment for me is a global benchmark. Even the most rural or desolate of places is always impeccably clean and safe.
If you can believe, Moerenuma Park was a former massive waste disposal center in Sapporo.
The transformation began in 1977. It was only in 2005 when the modern marvel of a park officially opened.
Make sure to watch today’s episode to see more of this amazing park!
The recent nature-loving girl that I am, considers Daisetsuzan National Park as one of my beloved places in Japan.
It is where I hiked up Mount Asahidake in February 2015 and got to experience my very first -17C winter adventure!
If you can imagine all this snow with leaves and grass, Kita Kita was probably shot here in autumn with Mount Asahidake as the backdrop.
It was also my first time to stay in a snow lodge where I had one of my top 10 meals in Japan:Â The La Vista Resort and Spa Daisetsuzan.
Daisetsuzan National Park is most popular in autumn for fall foliage. Then there’s winter for snow sports & onsen (hot springs).
Now imagine a snow festival deep within the forest mountains of Daisetsuzan. Check out the trippy Sounkyo Hot Springs Ice Festival on the VLOG!
A lot of couples like commemorating their travels with special mementos.
When in Sapporo, you can do just that by riding up the ropeway to the scenic observatory of Mount Moiwa. I share clips of my ride up to the top in today’s episode.
On a clear day, you can see the whole city of Sapporo. Even better, visit at night and you just experienced one of Japan’s Top 3 Night Views.
Make sure to ring the Bell of Happiness and leave a Love Padlock for some lasting memories of your travels.
Then you have the last two locations which I haven’t been to: Sapporo Fushimi Inari Jinjya, which is a Shinto shrine.
Although I do share clips of me in another very similar Shinto shrine. It’s probably the most famous Japanese one in the world, Kyoto’s Fushimi Inari Taisha or Orange Gates.
Lastly, it is the Historic Village of Hokkaido, which is an open air museum.
Today’s episode shares interesting trivia on the film locations from Kita Kita that I’ve been to and even the other last two to complete the list.
It is just like the Game of Thrones episode! You can also watch one of my favorite episodes on the VLOG featuring the Game of Thrones: Revisited Tour. GoT Film locations in Iceland you can visit too!
I’ve always wanted for you to take a chance on travel. Rather than spend on things, save up for that next trip instead.
Now that you’ve seen your favorite movie stars in places like Hokkaido, hope this’ll inspire you even more to make it your next goal: travel to Japan!
Enjoy my special Kita Kita episode and don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel!
Don’t forget next week: Sapporo Food Guide!

Cappadocia has become one of the most sought after wanderlust destinations in the world.
You can easily tick off two adventures from your travel bucket list in Cappadocia: first, ride in a hot air balloon at the break of dawn then ending the night sleeping inside a prehistoric cave.
Thanks to social media, you get a glimpse of this beautiful ancient region in Turkey with just a click.
However, there truly is so much more to see. So allow me to help you out with a Cappadocia travel guide based on my family trip in April 2015.
Tour guides are heaven-sent when wanting to further appreciate a certain culture and place. If you match with one that jives with your personality (added to their street-smarts and expertise), then you’re set to have an even more enjoyable time.
Turkey Tours by Ertunga Ecir arranged and collaborated with my sister-navigator-researcher-extraordinaire our unforgettable three-week adventure around Turkey.
Cappadocia was one the places we visited where Ertunga had assigned Ms. Sibel Turkmen to be our wonderful, English-speaking guide.
Cool, funny and warm, Sibel was our go-to-guide and coordinator during our 4 day stay in Cappadocia.
Back in 2015, we were told there were nearly 1000 boutique hotels in Capadoccia. I am absolutely sure that number has changed due to its growing popularity.
Our hotel, Miras Hotel, only had 8 rooms (if I recall correctly) and like most hotels, are multi-level.
Each hotel and its rooms are uniquely designed according to the curvature of the natural caves.
Game of Thrones vibes if you ask me. Epic and unreal.
Which reminds me, have you read or watched that episode from Iceland on the vlog yet?
Anyway… there is no air conditioning as the natural temperature inside a cave is about 15C-18C.
We went in spring and I must admit, it was cold at night! But nothing like fuzzy socks and a sweater to keep you warm (which I had none of, lol).
See more of the hotel in today’s episode!
Cappadocia is one of those places you will need a car to get around to see the sights. In our case, when we booked Sibel via Ertunga Ecir, we also arranged for a private van and driver.
Of course it’s up to you to either join a group tour or book a private one. Depending on your preference and budget, as with all tourist attractions, there are many options to choose from.
When I was researching about cave hotels, this photo always appeared. Only to find out it wasn’t.
This is Uchisar Castle.
Out of the three prehistoric castles in Capadoccia, this is the highest one.
In Capadoccia, you are encouraged to use your imagination as the volcanic rock formations can remind you of many things they look similar to.
Here at Monk’s Valley:
ME: Sibel (tour guide), if I may be honest, these rocks look like really large dicks. I mean, seriously massive penis’.
SIBEL: Yes, there are many valleys in Capadoccia and one of them is called the Love Valley! Take your pick, all sizes!
See, I told you she was funny, haha!
Speaking of love, some things photos just can’t quite describe. But videos and a little graphics, no pun intended, sure can!
You gotta watch this week’s episode to find out!
25 millions years ago, volcanic activity produced beautiful rock formations in Capadoccia.
These are the Three Beauties or the Three-Headed Fairy Chimneys. Although if you look closely, there are actually 5.
The five represent a traditional family in the region: father, mother, child and grandparents.
Nearly every tour one goes on, 9.9 out of ten times, you will be brought to a “partner” restaurant serving the local cuisine.
It isn’t called a tourist spot for nothing: it’s not always the most authentic, “local,” or even delicious. Most time it feels like a tourist trap.
Since we booked a private tour, we had the option to eat wherever. But we were also curious to know where and what lunch was in such an exotic city.
Surprisingly, the dining hall we were brought to for one of our day tours, Uranos & Sarikaya Restaurant was not bad at all.
The food was surprisingly good (there were meat dishes as only pictured is my seasoned grilled fish). The cave ambience and entertainment did not disappoint either!
From Persian carpets to leather goods and other Turkish paraphernalia, there are loads of souvenir shops scattered all around Cappadocia.
The area we stayed at was Göreme. The lovely central square had cafes, restaurants and shops all lined up together.
Perhaps, you can also enjoy some good old-fashioned people-watching while sipping on some Turkish tea.
Speaking of tea, Sibel took us to one of the oldest mom and pop shops: Hunkar Delights and Nuts. Here you’ll be overwhelmed with the vast array of Turkish delights: Dried fruits, nuts, flavored teas, aromatic spices and other hundreds of exotic treats.
We were floored by the absolute sublimeness of the dark chocolate covered figs, apple tea and a delightfully extensive degustation tutorial on all things Turkish teas and treats! Another episode on Turkish delights, spices and cuisine soon!
The family owners made us feel so welcomed and stuffed us with all the free tasting, haha!
The Hittites were the first cave dwellers who carved their homes out of these volcanic rocks.
Up until 1953, people were still living in these caves at Zelve Valley until it was turned into an open air museum. Now, it is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Another Unesco World Heritage Site, the Göreme Open Air Museum is usually the first stop in any Cappadocia travel guide.
What may look line ordinary caves but is actually a large complex of prehistoric monasteries, churches and fresco or wall painting ruins (similar to the fresco photo from Zelve Valley).
Unlike the traditional churches we know of today, they had names such as Apple Church or Snake Church with interesting back stories.
While this may be as touristy as it can gets, it is also still the most traditional, entertaining (and easiest) way to learn about any culture.
I even shared a snippet on Instagram that evening.
Here I finally got to see Whirling Dervishes or the Meveli perform in person. It is a religious dance where the whirling is considered a spiritual form of meditation.
“In 2008, UNESCO confirmed “The Mevlevi Sema Ceremony” of Turkey as amongst the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.”
It was so fun and easy, I even won myself a cute husband and gave him back after dessert, haha!
Watch the video to highlights from the show meet bae!
If you recall your high school history lessons, you may have heard of The Ottoman Empire. It is also known as the Turkish Empire. It was founded by the Turkish tribal leader from the 13th century, Osman.
One of the most popular restaurants serving authentic home cooked Ottoman cuisine in Cappadocia is Dibek. It’s located right at the center of Göreme town.
Turkish cuisine from my observation is a mix of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern depending what province you’re at.
With a homey, old-world atmosphere where guests dine on pillows and Turkish mats, it was even made lovelier by the friendly owner, Mehmet Sisman. He not only served our dishes himself but also dished how much he loves diving in our very own Palawan islands!
I wish I had more photos to share from Dibek but the company and food were just so enjoyable. When I think about it, it’s often a good sign when I forget about my phone!
But what I can show you next is this…
From multi-level caves above the ground to whole ones underneath it, the Kaymakli Underground City is another Cappadocia cultural highlight.
It is like going through a labyrinth of sorts while learning about the prehistoric life of its ancient dwellers and more.
I must admit, it’s not for the faint of heart. If you’re claustrophobic, have bad knees or insanely tall, this may not be the best for you.
However, you can choose to go as deep inside the intrinsic, maze-like city or merely have a quick gander on the easier paths.
If you’ve ever been inside the Cu Chi Tunnel in Vietnam, this is somewhat similar but a grander scale.
While I love shopping for shoes, I must admit, I fell in love with Turkish ceramics! If only they all fit in my suitcase – without breaking!
Turkey is ranked as one of the top five ceramic tile and ceramic sanitary ware exporters of the world.
You can find Turkish ceramics at every souvenir shop in the country. As with most souvenirs, they may look the same but the quality have great disparities.
At Kapadokya Seramik, the factory shows tourists how these intricate pieces of art are made from start to finish.
There is a room where you can touch everything and are the most affordable. Then there is another room where no photos are allowed and is a haven for the most beautiful ceramic art there is – at a hefty price of course.
It reminds me of those typical Asian silk, jade or ceramic factories. Even if you don’t intend to buy, it’s free anyway to see how they create such pieces of art. A free history lesson!
We were told that the ceramic you buy at a regular tourist shop, you cannot and should not expose to heat because the paint is toxic.
While the high quality Turkish ceramic is the kind you can cook with and reuse without the colors fading.
These glass coasters are the high quality ones and cost around 8-12Euros or P450-P700 depending on the size.
The practical girl that I am, I opted to buy the cheaper versions from those regular souvenir shops. With dad’s help at haggling, lol, I was able to buy several in similar prints for 2Euros or P115 each (2015 exchange rate)!
But be warned: They are heavy and very fragile.
Nothing like a nice, relaxing stroll around Göreme town to burn off some calories or work up an appetite.
Okay maybe not soooo relaxing because it’s got a whole lot of up and downhill roads, lol.
The view is just lovely! A mix of old and new. Seeing how different boutique hotels designed their spaces is sure to inspire, especially if you’re into architecture and design.
Seeing the different valleys and towns of Cappadocia is not to be missed.
In addition to that, the one request we did have in Cappadocia was we wanted to go out of the city proper and see the outskirts. Places that are not as touristy or at all.
Sibel took us to a quaint, remote town of Mustafapasa or Sinasos.
Filled with ruins, history and my kind of solace: no hint of commercialized tourism and preserved authenticity. Understatedly beautiful!
When my family and I tour anywhere in the world, we prefer to eat at the most local of places. We don’t need fancy restos. We want to savor local flavors that the locals themselves, love.
So it always helps to have tour guides who know the language and ways to get around.
This is also why Sibel took us to Sinasos: to eat the very local but popular, Hanimeli Restoran and Cafe.
It’s run by a sweet mother and son team, where the mom cooks all the traditional Turkish dishes served. The food was so fresh, delicious and felt like a home-cooked meal paired with such warm hospitality from the son.
I am almost certain anyone would say that it would only be a complete trip to Cappadocia if you rode in a hot air balloon.
That’s why I chose to list this as the last – well almost.
For someone who used to be so afraid of heights, I had miraculously conquered that fear, thanks to riding in one last January 1, 2015.
It was actually my very first episode for the VLOG! You can learn more about both hot air balloon adventures in Bagan and Cappadocia. Then there’s also overcoming fears in that very immensely personal episode:
If you’re really afraid of heights or simply just aren’t into hot air balloons, there is still a way to enjoy them: watching them all fly over breakfast at sunrise.
Almost every cave hotel has balconies you can choose to have breakfast in or even just a cup of signature Turkish coffee.
Google Cappadocia and it will show you countless photos of travelers enjoying al fresco dining to catch the first peek of sunrise in a hot air balloon-filled sky.
As you saw in my very first episode, I took flight with the most popular HAB company, Royal Balloon.
Oh, did I mention I am not a morning person? Lol! So I had breakfast just as regular folks do – inside the hotel at 9am!
Given that this was a family trip, we don’t usually indulge in the night life. So I am sure by the amount of shisha cafes and bars we came across during our trip, there is an interesting night life to say the least.
Okay, my fingers are cramped from typing and my brain hurts! This is the longest post I’ve ever written and honestly not my favorite, haha! I felt like I was taking a test on every single thing I learned from Sibel after two years! I hope you’re proud!!!
Hope you enjoy this week’s episode sharing the highlights and get inspired to book that next trip to Cappadocia!

Do you know the 5 Love Languages? Sounds cheesy doesn’t it? Well, call it what you may but truth is, love is an expression and a form of communication. Our desire is for that love to be reciprocated. So when that love is lost in translation, you can feel neglected, rejected and misunderstood.
Miscommunication is the root of unhappiness in all types of relationships: be it romantic, professional, friendship or family.
Just because your intention is noble and sincere, doesn’t always guarantee it will be received that way.
The key to a win-win situation in the name of love is first, figuring out what your love language is and second, identifying how you prefer to receive it. Mind you, they may or may not be the same.
That is what today’s episode is all about: learning the 5 love languages, how you can effectively convey it and experience it.
The 5 love languages is not some urban legend or cheesy concept. It is actually a science on human behavior on how to express and experience love effectively. It is based on a bestselling self-help book written by Gary Chapman.
I read the book many moons ago and it has changed the way I viewed relationships and how I can “extract” fulfillment from them.
It is not something you get from someone. Rather, it is something that you must learn to manifest through your own efforts – first.
Taking accountability for your own words and actions greatly affect the quality of all your relationships. Love is not selfish. Therefore, it’s not about what you can get but what you can offer first and foremost.
With every cause (your actions), only then can there be an effect (their reaction) with a higher rate of success.
If you truly want to make your relationships better, identifying how you can improve them not only makes your loved ones happier but you too, will reap the benefits it brings.
Physical Affection
Material Things
Quality Time
Acts of Services
Words of Affirmation
We all innately convey and respond to all 5 love languages. However, there will always be one that is the most dominant over the rest. The art is learning how to play each card or love language given a specific situation and person.
Be aware that you may express it one way but how you wish to receive it may not be the same.
If we all convey and receive love the same way then we’d be attracted to the same people for the same reasons.
We are complex individuals. So just as DNA makes you biologically and physiologically unique, your love language makes you emotionally and psychologically unique too.
Likewise, the 5 Love Languages isn’t just for your relationships with others.
It is also, if not, most importantly, for the relationship we neglect the most: with ourselves.
How we nurture ourselves will dictate the kind of love we convey to others. So be the love you wish to receive.
I explain all these on today’s episode so I hope you enjoy and learn a thing or two. People assume once you know the 5 love languages, you’re good to go. If only it were that easy.
It’s one thing to know and another to apply. If it were that simple then relationships would all be happily ever after.
So I truly encourage you to watch the video to understand how to use all 5 love languages to your advantage. Then reap all its benefits for you and your various relationships.
It took me time to truly apply what I learned from the book – years, in fact. I am still learning as I go. As with all relationships, it takes time, effort, consistency and communication – PRACTICE. So don’t be too hard on yourself. Baby steps are better than no steps at all.
Learn to study the needs of your partner, colleagues, friends, siblings, etc. (Don’t forget to study your own needs as well). Once you identify how they prefer to experience love and affection, I guarantee that how they treat you will change positively. Then if you decide to communicate with them how you wish to receive love then boom, it’s a win-win!
How I wish it were easy to communicate how we wish to receive love. Instead, let your actions or love language based on their desires do the talking instead.
Likewise, it’s never a guarantee that for as long as we express a preferential love language to a person we are pursuing, we will get it in return.
We cannot control the behavior of others but what we can control is our attitude. We can only hope for the best as to how others reciprocate. For as long as we gave it our all to be proactive, then there will be no regrets.
As they say, it’s not about working harder, it’s working smarter. Same theory applies to working on all relationships.
You ready to learn the 5 love languages?

It’s called the digital world for a reason: it is not of the Earth. Iceland on the other hand, is a postcard of this planet: pure, untouched (yet) and magical.
The growing tourism in Iceland is proof that man is longing for nature’s bounty as it has now become scarce.
It is almost as if globalization has become a curse.
Corporations prioritizing profit over protecting the planet – the only one we call home.
Imagine coming across a truly special place that’s unknown. You almost want to keep it a secret for the fear of commercialization right? We all know, once the Starbucks’ and McDonalds’ have hit its shores, it’s downhill from there.
That’s how I feel about Iceland.
Mind you, it wasn’t even when I finally bathed in the country’s wanderlust claim to fame, the Blue Lagoon.
Of course it was spectacular. Of course it was unreal: swimming in hot springs while surrounded by snow-capped mountains in the middle of the Northern Hemisphere!
You would think it was when I nearly lost my mind, crying from tears of joy during the Game of Thrones: Revisited Tour. The epic tour that took us to several film locations in Iceland with the helpful guidance from The Mountain, who happens to be Icelandic.
Actually, it was only when I had gone on a road trip to the South Coast of Iceland.
Between standing in front of double rainbows to blissfully chasing waterfalls after another or fearlessly standing on the edge of a cliff overlooking a black-sanded beach, it was pure magic.
No spells, potions or captions needed – just Nature being itself.
I am torn because how would I ever have known all this unless I were a tourist eating off the commercial pie? How would I have discovered this Scandinavian volcanic island had I not set foot in what I consider to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth?
The whole point of this website is to peak your curiosity for traveling. With that, a big part of me wants you to see Iceland with your own eyes! The magnificent beauty of mountains, glaciers, desert, pristine crystal waters and the purest air are the food for one’s soul.
Yet the other part of me wants to leave Iceland alone. I want nothing more than to protect her sanctity from poisonous, commercial wolves.
Where does it end? Where does it begin?
Today’s episode aims to spark a fire within you to help save our planet – our home.
It’s ironic I say this because Mother Nature doesn’t need us to move on. She actually doesn’t need our help. She will continue to evolve as she always has.
So let me rephrase:
We are the ones who need help! We are the ones who needs saving if we want to continue living on this planet.
So as I write this, I realize you – we can do both: discover and protect.
If you love a flower, don’t pick it up. If you pick it up, it dies and it ceases to be what you love. So if you love a flower, let it be. Love is not about possession. Love is about appreciation.
~ Osho
Feed your mind with solutions while feeding your soul with awakening experiences.
Should the day come when smog has covered the Earth, there will be no more rainbows. We will eternally say goodbye to blue skies and the stars. Then eventually, the dying days of mankind.
Extinction is forever.
If only this were just some Hollywood end-of-the-world flick like Armageddon or Interstellar. Sadly, this is not a rehearsal or a screenplay. This is real life.
“I don’t understand why when we destroy something created by man, we call it VANDALISM but when we destroy something created by nature, we call it PROGRESS.” ~ Ed Begley Jr.
Let’s not wait for another Earth Day to come before we give a shit about this planet. Everyday is an Earth day.
Everyday we get another chance to create change: change ourselves, our mindset, our attitudes, our priorities. Only then can we change the world. It all starts with us.
Do it with love and only love.

Can you hear the Game of Thrones soundtrack in your head?
Good.
Keep it playing as I can still recall that hair-rising feeling as soon as we GoT fans got settled inside the tour bus on that cold, spring April morning in Iceland.
It was a silent smile paired with geeky glee if I had to describe it, haha!
It was as if we were off to some adventure to have an enth drink with Tyrion Lannister, followed by a fiery ride across the Iceland skies on one of Khaleesi’s dragons.
Actually if I think about it, you don’t need to be a Game of Thrones nerd to appreciate this tour.
While it may show you various shooting locations from the #1 TV show in the world, it also shows the grandeur of Icelandic landscapes: a spectacular mix of glacier and desert.
Breathtaking.
Iceland boasts of many wanderlust wonders and as seen in social media, the Blue Lagoon is one of them.
You can watch me freeze my bikini butt off in 1C madness here.
When planning this trip to Scandinavia, as seen here:
… the Game of Thrones: Revisited tour was actually my sister’s idea as she knew I was a fan.
She sacrificed going on another tour just so we could go on this one. Mind you, she has never watched the show. However, I eventually found her semi-swaying to the GoT anthem considering it was playing non-stop on the bus.
Now that is what you call sisterly love. Sansa and Arya Stark would be so proud.
Speaking of Arya, we met her horse – an Icelandic 4-legged beauty!
If I had to make a guess, you’ve scanned through these photos and are still wondering where’s all the Game of Thrones trivia?!!
Every photo in this post tells a story from the HBO hit. So you gotta watch it – this episode that is, to get it. No spoilers!
While the photos display the majestic, natural splendor of Iceland, I can only really explain the context of each film location through video as I show direct comparisons from specific scenes.
Like this one from season 4….
It simply looks like a dark, stony path but this Unesco World Heritage site was actually used to shoot two scenes in Game of Thrones.
Hint: Sansa Stark, White Walkers, the Hound & the Bloody Path
Out of all the episodes I’ve shot for the VLOG, I am actually quite proud of this one, haha! What a geek!
And trust that while this episode may be for the love of GoT, you will have lots to ogle about mainly because Iceland is undeniably nature’s magical realm on Earth.
It’s no wonder why some of the best Hollywood films have been shot in Iceland: Interstellar, Star Wars: Rogue 1, The Force Awakens, Tomb Raider and more.
For miles and miles, nothing is man-made as the sprawling landscapes take center stage in every epic film or TV show such as Game Of Thrones.
Can’t wait to watch the season premiere tonight and I hope you enjoy this week’s episode!
The love for Game of Thrones continues as I take you to a film location for season 7 at the South Coast of Iceland for the next episode!

Speaking of GoT, imagine sharing a meal with Jon Snow or Ned Stark… That’s exactly what it felt like in last week’s gastronomic episode in Latvia.

If there was ever a time I really felt I was transported through time – Game of Thrones times to be exact, lol, it would have to be here at Rozengrals.
You may also see it spelled in your researching as ROZENGRĀLS.
Rozengrals is the only authentic medieval restaurant in the Old Town of Riga, the capital of Latvia in Northern Europe.
Truth: my love for Game of Thrones was a strong deciding factor in wanting to try out this restaurant. Special thanks to the recommendation of my dear sister.
Also truth: I’ll be the first to say that it always helps to set your expectations low when dining at a popular tourist attraction. That way, you’re never disappointed.
Bottom line, such places offer overall experiences that often outweigh the quality of the food. Theme parks are the best examples of this.
While this wasn’t a theme park, Rozengrals certainly felt like one. Every detail, crevice, cutlery, furniture, fabric, grain of rice, gowns of waitresses and musicians’ instruments all cohesively made every guest felt like they were dining during the medieval times – with the modern perks of wifi, of course!
When actually, Rozengrals was a former wine cellar and festival hall of the Riga city council dating back to 1293.
To say I was impressed is an understatement.
The food was absolutely delicious! The sea bass I had was so succulent, perfectly seasoned, garnished and presented. Even the forest mushroom pottage was deceivingly depthful in flavor.
More impressively, the bread starter not only left a lovely taste in my mouth but a strong impression as well.
As you’ll see in this week’s medieval episode, absolutely no detail was taken for granted.
For the full effect, I imagined Rozengrals’ menu offerings were just like the dishes served in the Purple Wedding of King Joffrey to Margaery or the horrifying feast of all feasts: the Red Wedding, both iconic, gripping scenes  from Game of Thrones.
Not shown: the unexpected, understated yet very popular dish that became a staple in all our meals in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, aka, Baltic States. Watch and you’ll find out!
Oh, you can also check out another post I shared featuring Lithuania.
THE VERDICT:
If you ever find yourselves in Latvia, Rozengrals is one place I highly recommend.
Our beautiful waitress’ name, by the way is Taya Shin.
This is just the first of five episodes I am dedicating for the love of Game of Thrones.
If you’re a fan, you would already have your calendars marked for the season 7 premiere this July 16 on HBO!
Adding to your excitement, you can check my next episode where I take you to the various film locations in Iceland from the #1 show in the world!
You’re welcome.

Confidence is very much like money: how little or how much of it you have, determines how you get by in life.
The same way money needs to be earned, managed, saved or spent, self-confidence applies the same dynamics: It doesn’t grow on trees or appear at a drop of a hat. It is something that is built through time and if managed in a healthy way, it can take you places, literally and figuratively.
It took me so long to launch this website. Two years to be exact. Even if the passion was there, I didn’t have enough confidence to fuel the fire. Then when it finally happened, ironically, it too has given me much confidence from the support I’ve received from you guys.
Then as the months passed with the steady release of weekly content or episodes, I continue to grow, to evolve and to push myself beyond my own comfort zone. It is humbling yet uplifting.
Today’s episode is dedicated to you, that person who needs that boost, that nudge when you’ve lost faith in yourself or lost your way in the middle of it all.
While it is aspirational for us to believe in ourselves, hence self-confidence, people believing in us is a great catalyst for positive change.
That is where I come in.
I don’t know you but I do know we are more similar than we are different: we both want to be happy.
Whatever your definition of happiness is, bottom line, it is a life filled with love, support, meaning and success.
As I shared on Instagram how I was bullied for many years during my adolescence, it took me many years to get to this point.
It was actually the driving force to go to make-up school in Los Angeles then write a book in 2011, which had become a bestseller.
I just knew I wanted to help people.
Making people feel beautiful was one way. Now, I’ve added encouraging others to travel literally and figuratively in this journey we call life as well.
I hope to impart things I’ve learned along the way and been proven to be effective in building self-esteem. These I find are the easiest and most basic. Think of this as your starter kit!
When you’ve mastered these, expect that your goals for yourself will only become higher and harder, which are signs of success!
Hope you enjoy today’s motivational post! You can check out other motivational posts I’ve done here.

There has always been this air of mystery when one mentions Russia. Almost this element of fear and intimidation if I had to be honest.
Why?
It would be a lie if I said media wasn’t an influential factor. What we see in the news and movies certainly play a vital role in feeding us with ideas about anything and everything in the world.
Say the Philippines, foreigners think we live on trees, it is a nation mostly filled with slums and squatters (thanks to movies like Bourne Legacy, among the few).
Not to mention how foreigners are so afraid to come here thinking the Abu Sayaf or terrorists are in Manila as they associate the country with the capital, when they really are situated in the northernmost part of the country that is at least 1.5hrs away by plane from Manila.
However, can you blame them?
Bad press is what makes the news. So it only makes sense that Philippine typhoons, earthquakes, poor politics and poverty are what make the headlines.
This is the general perception of the world on us.
Just a few days in Russia and my whole impression of this so-called cold country had vanished. St. Petersburg, alongside Budapest, Tokyo and Dubai have now become my most favorite cities in the world.
The episode this week hopes to convey the warmth, beauty and brilliance of such a misunderstood country and you’ll never guess why!
Look beyond the news, question “facts,” do your own research for the truth is always either an exaggeration, a perception or a deception in plain sight.
I travel to seek the truth.
Why do you travel?

I had no idea where Scandinavia was. It just sounded so cool and somewhere really far.
Bravo Bianca, the travel vlogger. Well done.
I was 12 when I had heard the word Scandinavia for the very first time. My parents took me to Sweden, Denmark and Finland via a cruise around the Scandinavian peninsula.
Don’t get me wrong. It was wonderful but as any typical pre-teen, soaking in world facts weren’t exactly “my thing” back then.
Fast forward to the future when travel has become nearly synonymous to the social media wanderlust way of life, one of the Scandinavian countries, Iceland, has become one of the most sought after destinations in the world.
Since we’re on the topic, Scandinavia is the term often called for a certain region in Northern Europe comprised of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland (and parts of Greenland). Thanks Google!
Impressively, these 5 countries continue to be top contenders of The Happiest Countries in the World List! Yes, there is such a thing.
Now that I’m all grown up, revisiting and immersing myself with a month-long itinerary of Scandinavian delights was nothing short of extraordinary.
Don’t worry, I’ve got TONS of episodes lined up per country. I want nothing more than for you have a taste, feel and idea as to why these folks from the Northern Hemisphere have much to be happy about.
So this week, I’m serving a round-up of Scandinavian highlights to get your travel buckelist juices flowing.

SWEDEN
Sweden set the benchmark for the trip as it was our first and last stop.
Talk about unforgettable: it was in Stockholm where I had a close call with the recent terrorist attack, which I featured right when I got back a month ago.
If you hadn’t watched that episode, I highly suggest you do as I give you a glimpse inside the beautiful city of Stockholm.
I even shared some trivia on Instagram where the term Smorgasbord originated from!
Then there’s this all-black OOTD. I did a short Instagram video sharing some fashion tips from inside H&M (also originating from Sweden).
If you didn’t see it, here it is:
Â
DENMARK
Home to Tivoli, the world’s first carnival, Kronborg Castle, aka Hamlet’s Castle (Shakespeare) and Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid.
In the capital city of Copenhagen, you may recognize the trademark colorful houses along the Nyhavn.
It’s the perfect backdrop for people watching while enjoying a cocktail from one of the many bars and restaurants.
All on the VLOG, soon!
FINLAND
It will be hard to forget Finland.
Other than chancing upon the President of China drive past us during his state visit to Helsinki or visiting the lovely quaint town of Porvoo or sleeping inside an actual igloo after catching a glimpse of the Northern Lights in the northernmost part of the country near the Arctic Circle, Lapland, it was also here I had a total breakdown.
Raw and real, I shared me at my most vulnerable with all of you.
More on the happiest of times from Finland airing sooner than you know…
ICELANDÂ
Oh Iceland. You blew it out of the park, my friend.
I mean c’mon – a rainbow?? Sorry, TWO rainbows! You’re such a show off!
Think it’s a filter? No worries, here’s proof as seen in my Instagram stories:
Then knowing that my favorite show of all time, Game of Thrones, was predominantly shot there and I got to see the actual film locations?!
I. CAN’T. EVEN.
Did I mention you need to subscribe to my YouTube channel for special episodes all dedicated to Game Of Thrones airing really soon?
You’re welcome.
Oh, lest we forget, swimming in sub-zero temperatures at the mystical waters of the Blue Lagoon, which I featured on the vlog.
NORWAY
Last but not the least, Oslo, Norway.
This was originally not part of the itinerary due to schedule conflicts back home.
Blessedly, a few days cleared up. So we extended a few more days to complete the visit to all five countries.
Can’t wait to share with you serendipitous shenanigans we had in Oslo despite most of the city being closed due to the Easter holiday.
This is the one country I hope to return to as there’s still so much to see!
Actually, I feel the same way for all five, haha!
I feel like there aren’t enough weeks in the year to show you guys everything I’ve been working really hard on!
So excited and grateful you’ve taken this journey with me…
Watch today’s episode and comment which country is your favorite! It’s so hard to pick just one!

What do you do when you see scorpions, spider and snakes?
Why, eat them obviously! Haha!
I am actually never one to back down from eating obscure, okay fine, (rated as) disgusting foods from all the over world.
Rather than be revolted, I’m actually very intrigued! A country’s character and charm have much to do with its food culture.
Do I find it odd or even gross at times? Of course I do! It doesn’t mean though I wouldn’t be open to sampling it so I don’t remain ignorant.
Trying certain foods isn’t always about enjoying myself. It’s really about educating myself on global cuisines.
Just because it’s unfathomable for us, doesn’t mean it isn’t considered the norm elsewhere.
For example: elk, bear and reindeer meat are part of the everyday diet in most of Scandinavia, while snails are common appetizers in France and the Philippines.
You can snack on a variety of bugs and worms in Thailand. The poisonous Puffer fish is a luxurious delicacy in Japan.
Then as you’ll see in today’s episode, creepy crawlers are popular street foods in Beijing’s former (watch the episode to find out why) Wangfujing Snack Street or Donghuamen Night Market.
No matter what your beliefs or personal tastes are, part of being a global citizen is respecting other cultures with openness and tolerance.
It is not wrong or right: it is simply different. That is how you learn, grow and love and live life to the fullest!
Admittedly, I am still struggling to understand why dogs are eaten in China ( will excuse myself from that heated discussion for now)…
But c’mon, how could you not salivate over these curled up snake skins?!! It’s a like a pinwheel cookie on a stick! Haha!
Here are sceeenshots from the video I shared on Instagram when I had some!
They uncurl the snake skin and “sew” it through a barbecue stick, as seen in the first photo.
Whether you build an appetite or gag in vomit, haha, you’ll get to watch me wolf down scorpions, centipedes, sea horses, snakes, etc!
Can you guess which one was my favorite???
You’ll have to watch today’s street gourmet extraordinaire to find out!
Love, light and cheers,

Disclaimer: Some of you may already know I am a vegetarian. In some cases when it’s really difficult when I travel (Japan especially) or attend events, I eat seafood.
The one thing I really don’t and cannot eat is meat (chicken, beef, pork and the like) due to strict dietary restrictions from a medical condition.
